Kupala. Part One

People have lived on the territory of Ukraine for more than 10 thousand years. Archaeologist Oleksandr Klykavka tells about the ancient horizontal barrow observatory of Bezvodivka in Chernihiv region. The movement of celestial bodies and the four seasons shaped the worldview of ancient Ukrainians. When celebrating holidays, the ancestors of Ukrainians relied on seasonality in nature and on the four elements: fire, water, earth and air. Folklorist and ethnographer Volodymyr Yaremchuk tells about 8 main holidays of ancient Ukrainians. The most favorite among young people was the Kupailo holiday - a symbolic "wedding" of fire and water, male and female principles.
